Tonight: Sandy Hook Candlelight Vigil & Gun Violence Panel and Chamber to Honor Leadership MetroWest

in memory of the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary School, there will be a candlelight vigil on the steps of Framingham's Memorial Building tonight at 6.

1. MetroWest Chamber of Commerce will bestow Leadership MetroWest its Non-Profit Partner of the Year award tonight at its 118th Annual Meeting and Awards Gala at the Sheraton Framingham hotel.

Leadership MetroWest has been building and inspiring a network of engaged and collaborative leaders in MetroWest for more than 25 years. With over 600 alumni, Leadership MetroWest, under the direction of Executive Director Helen Lemoine, has enabled participants from small, medium and large businesses to emerge with stronger organizational leadership, benefitting the region in countless ways.

Framingham-based Leadership MetroWest is just one of a handful of honorees at the gala event.

2. In memory of the victims of Sandy Hook Elementary School, there will be a candlelight vigil on the steps of Framingham's Memorial Building tonight at 6 followed by a roundtable discussion of gun control, sponsored by Citizens for Sensible Gun Police, a member of the Massachusetts Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence.

Moderated by Framingham State Rep. Chris Walsh. the panel discussion will begin at 7 in the Blumer Community Room in the basement of the Memorial Building. Panelist include Framingham Police Chief Ken Ferguson, State Sen. Karen Spilka, Middlesex County Sheriff Peter Koutoujian, Move to Amend Boston Chapter Founder John Hill, Laura Hyer of Stop Hand Gun Violence and Sheila Loayza, a gun owner. The event if free and open to the public. 

3. Today is an early release day for elementary school students in the Framingham Public Schools. Children, ages 8 and older, can stop by the Mighty Makers Club at the main Framingham Library at 3 p.m. and explore their creative side.  Children will start to create video introductions using library iPads and then brainstorm ideas for their next project.

4. Framingham Health Department will be holding a flu clinic tomorrow, Nov. 15 at the Callahan Senior Center from 2 to 4 p.m. for those age 60 and older. Participants are asked to bring insurance/Medicare cards.
