Tonight: Scout Night at Ben & Jerry's, Special Town Meeting and JFK Discussion

Tonight, the Framingham History Center will present Remembering JFK: The Legacy, The Assassination and the Aftermath at Edgell Memorial Library at 7.

1. Framingham will hold a Special Town Meeting tonight at 7:30  in Nevins Hall inside the Memorial Building. Framingham Patch will be at tonight's session.

There are four articles on the warrant. The Special Town Meeting was called, after Town Meeting member Herb Chasan submitted more than 250 signatures to the Town Clerk the day after the fall October Special Town Meeting ended.

Chasan wants Town Meeting to have a say in the $409,000 surplus in the town's budget, before selectmen set the tax rate in December.

Chasan blogged about his position on Framingham Patch earlier this week. Read his views here.

2. Tonight is Framingham Girl Scout Night at Ben & Jerry's ice Cream in Natick.
Scouts are invited to have a treat, participate in SWAPs, and help raise money for the Framingham Girl Scouts service unit. A portion of all sales between 6 and 8 p.m. will go to the Framingham Girl Scouts.

Money will be used to reduce the cost of town-wide events and provide scholarships for Scouts in need. All are invited to attend, not just Scouts.

3. Friday is the 50th anniversary of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy in Dallas.

Tonight, the Framingham History Center will present Remembering JFK: The Legacy, The Assassination and the Aftermath at Edgell Memorial Library at 7. Admission $5.

Join a discussion focusing on JFK's Presidential legacy including the Peace Corps, memories of "where were you when..." and hear from Dr. Mary Murphy, a Framingham resident, who volunteered to help answer the millions of "Letters to Jackie" that were written in sympathy by a grieving nation.

4. Wednesday night, Edwards Church held a transgender day of remembrance, including a worship service, in which transgender people who have died as the result of violence, oppression, or silencing were remembered. Rev. Deb Clark said the church lit 78 candles to remember the individuals killed in the past year.

The Transgender Day of Remembrance, held annually on Nov. 20, was started by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998.

5. In Case You Missed It:  The Town of Framingham has hired Roberto Santamaria as its new Deputy Director of Public Health.

Santamaria, who started his employment with the town on Nov. 13, is a highly credentialed professional with a wealth of education and experience in the field of public health, said Assistant Town Manager Jennifer Thompson.

Santamaria comes to Framingham, after serving as the Director of Public Health for the City Of Everett.
