Our daily column, 5 Things You Need to Know Today, will help you to get your day started and offer you some fodder for water cooler conversation.

1. Wednesday's Comics Unite event to benefit the United Way of Tri-County in Framingham is NOW sold out. The event takes place at the TCAN Theatre in Natick and features an all-star comedy line up standing up against hunger in MetroWest. The event will benefit the Pearls Street Cafe & Cupboard in Framingham. Click here for more information and how to get tickets.

2. The South Middlesex Technical Regional School District will hold a School Committee meeting tonight at 6:30 p.m. at Keefe Technical School. On the agenda is an evaluation of Superintendent James Lynch and the search for his replacement. 

3. The main Framingham Library will host a LEGO contest for children, entering first grade and older tonight at 7. Pre-registration is required. Call the children's desk to register.

4. The race is on to fill the congressional seat left vacant by Ed Markey - including the competition to raise money - and Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian of Waltham leads the way. The Sheriff will be in Framingham this morning to greet boys and girls attending his camp this week. Click here, to see how much each candidate for Congress has raised this far.

5. The Framingham-based Doug Flutie Jr., Foundation for Autism has been nominated as a finalist for the Steve Patterson Award for Excellence in Sports Philanthropy. The Patterson Award is created by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. Click here to learn more about the award.
