5 Things You Need To Know Today: July 17

Geology Mad Science workshops at the library, performance anxiety yoga workshop tonight, Markey sworn-in as senator and Brophy Night at Samba Steak & Sushi all featured in today's column.

Our daily column, 5 Things You Need to Know Today, will help you to get your day started and offer you some fodder for water cooler conversation.

1. The Main Framingham Library will host two Mad Science workshops on earth science this afternoon. Pre-registration is required. The free workshops are at 2 and 3:30 p.m. Children entering grade 1 and older may participate. They will learn to become geologists in training learning about rocks, minerals and the forces that shape the Earth beneath us. Participants will build a sedimentary stacker to take home.

2. The bottleneck that is the I-95/I-90 interchange in Weston has drawn the attention of MassDOT officials. Starting today, July 17, a two-week "bottleneck relief trial" period will begin in an effort to inexpensively alleviate the issues at the interchange. Click here for more details.

3. The Open Spirit Center at Edwards Church is hosting a yoga workshop for performers who have performance anxiety. The workshop begins at 7 p.m. Click here for more details.

4. Congressman Ed Markey was sworn in as the Commonwealth's junior senator yesterday, July 16. Click here to watch the ceremony.

5. It is Brophy Elementary School Night at Samba Steak & Sushi tonight. This is a great social opportunity to dine out with family and friends - you don't have to be from Brophy to participate. You may even see your Brophy teachers and principal there, too. From 5 to 8 p.m. will a flyer (email brophyschoolpto@gmail.com for a flyer for you and your family/friends)  and 20 percent of your order will go to the Brophy PTO. The money raised provides enrichment activities such as Science Fair, Multicultural Fair, and school trips for the students.
