5 Things You Need to Know Today: July 9

Mosquito spraying in Saxonville tonight, Jenny the Juggler at downtown Framingham Farmers Market, ZBA hearing on Marist property and Selectmen to vote on water & sewer rates all featured in today's column.

Our daily column, 5 Things You Need to Know Today, will help you to get your day started and offer you some fodder for water cooler conversation.

1. Framingham Zoning Board of Appeals is scheduled to meet tonight at 7. On the agenda is a request for a special permit for the former Marist Brothers property by Walden Behavioral Care. The hearing will be in the Blumer Community Room in the Memorial Building and is scheduled for 8 p.m.

Framingham Patch was the first media outlet to report, back in early May, that the Waltham-based company wanted to move its headquarters to Framingham and open an 80-bed treatment center.

3. Framingham Farmers Market will be open in downtown Framingham today from noon to 5:30 p.m.

Scheduled vendors at 1 Park St. include Hanson’s Farm, Nagog Hill Farm, Great Harvest Bread, Fior d’Italia, Everybody Traveling Massage, When Life Gives you Lemons…, Smokin’ Jay’s BBQ, Sheldonville Soapworks, Senior Whole Health, Framingham Downtown Renaissance, Oil Paintings by: Dave Gehman and  Fat Boyfriend Bakery. Free parking is available at the TD Bank parking lot on Park Street.

If spraying is postponed on either day, it will be rescheduled for Monday, July 15. Tonight, spraying is scheduled for areas in Saxonville located near Elm St., Griffin Rd., Pinewood Dr., Joseph Rd., Danforth St., School St. and Lake Rd.

5.  The town's trio of public beaches will be open today to cool off. Saxonville Beach on Lake Road, Learneds Pond on Lower Shawmut Terrace, and Lake Waushakum on Nipmuc Road will open at 10 a.m. Beach Tags are required to use the beaches.For more information on cost and how to get beach tags, click here. Lifeguards will be on duty until 7 p.m.
