Framingham Rallies to Help Second Grade Student With Leukemia

In just 4 days, 349 people made donations and raised $20,440 to help the Tierney family of Framingham.

Earlier this week, Framingham Patch ran a report that a second grade student at Dunning Elementary School was diagnosed with leukemia and a crowd sourcing page had been started to help the Framingham family.

Well, in just 4 days 349 people made donations and raised $20,440. The goal of the page was to raise $20,000.

The Tierney family was told their daughter Emma, 7, was diagnosed with leukemia less than two weeks ago. Immediately, she began treatment at Children's Hospital in Boston.

Mom Jessica and dad Tom will need to make weekly trips to the hospital for the next two years, so she can fight this disease. Although her treatment is covered by insurance, the family faces a number of expenses over the next two years, including co-payments, parking costs in Boston and the need to find occasional childcare for Emma's younger sister Addie, 4.

Emma's dad Tom Tierney is a lieutenant with the Somerville Fire Department and his fellow firefighters started a fundraising website, with the goal of raising $20,000 to help the family. That goal was exceeded in just 4 days.
