Register for Sunday's Pan-Massachusetts Challenge Framingham Kids Ride

Framingham High Senior Michael Berkson started and is coordinating the May 19 ride in honor of his father, Craig, a survivor of pancreatic cancer and a five-time PMC cyclist.

, a foundation that raises money for the same type of cancer he has survived.

This year, Berkson's son Michael, a Framingham High School senior, started and is coordinating the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge Framingham Kids Ride on Sunday morning, May 19.

The PMC Framingham Kids Ride is one of more than 3 dozen PMC Kids Rides scheduled across New England this weekend. More than 4,000 cyclists ages 3-16 are expected to participate to raise awareness and funds for cancer care and research.

The first-ever PMC Kids Ride took place in 1998 when 13 children rode around their Medfield neighborhood 25 times and raised $1,600 for the PMC. Since then, the PMC Kids Rides program has raised more than $4 million.

Berkson is striving for 75 children, ages 3-12 to participate. There are two courses available. Rides starts at 9 a.m.

Children, who are comfortable on two-wheels, will cycle around a one-mile circuit in the Flanagan Drive neighborhood, which is located behind Brophy Elementary School.

Children, ages 3-9 or who use training wheels or tricycles, will do a circuit around the elementary school.

At about 11 a.m., an hour-long party, featuring games, raffles and face painting, will be held for all participants.

Berkson said he wants to raise more than $2,500 from the inaugural PMC Framingham Kids Ride.

To participate, there is a $10 registration fee and each cyclist is asked to fundraise a minimum of $25.

To register, visit www.kids.pmc.org/framingham.aspx.

Pre-registration is strongly encouraged, but on-site registration will take place at 8 a.m. Sunday.

If you can't ride, and still wish to help donations payable to PMC Kids Ride – Framingham may be mailed to PMC Kids Ride – Framingham, 8 Wildewood Terrace, Framingham, 01701.

Another way to help is to attend the fundraiser event for the PMC Framingham Kids Ride at Sweet Spot Frozen Yogurt on Friday, May 17 from 2 to 11 p.m.

Young cyclists, who fundraise more than $250 each will be designated as "Heavy Hitters," and will receive an official PMC hat, certificate and sticker to place on their helmets to acknowledge their fundraising achievements, said Berkson.

Volunteers are still needed the day of the ride, too. To give of your time, click here.
