Scouts To Honor Anniversary of the Start of the Civil War

Framingham Boy & Girl Scouts will participate in an event tonight to honor the 150th anniversary of the state of the Civil War, in conjunction with the Framingham History Center.

In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Fort Sumter and the beginning of the Civil War today, Framingham and Girl Scout troops will be lighting  candles around the soldier in from of the  about 7 p.m.

These lights will honor those Framingham men/boys who died in battle during this conflict.  The event was organized in conjunction with the

The public is invited to watch the event, which will start on the Town Common at 6 p.m. The Scouts will participate in historical events.

At 7 p.m. Scout leaders will lead their individual group across Oak Street to the Edgell Memorial Library, where the Scouts will read the names and simultaneously light luminaries for each of the 52 Framingham residents that died in the Civil War, followed by a moment of silence.

Afterwards, the Scouts and their families will receive a private tour of Civil War items inside the Center's library.
