5 Things You Need To Know Today: June 22

Dig into summer reading program, Riverfest 2013, Framingham Frogs car wash and Boston Whitecaps final game at Bowditch Field tonight all featured in today's column.

Our daily column, 5 Things You Need to Know Today, will help you to get your day started and offer you some fodder for water cooler conversation.

1. The Framingham Library will kick-off its DIG INTO READING summer reading program for kids today from 10 a.m. to noon at the McAuliffe Branch Library and the Pinefield Shopping Center parking lot. Kids can explore big trucks from Fire, Police, and DPW departments, as well as food and ice cream trucks.

2. 12th Annual Riverfest takes place today. RiverFest celebrates the Sudbury, Assabet and Concord Wild and Scenic Rivers with over 45 events in 10 communities.

3. Framingham Youth Football and Cheerleading is hosting a registration and meet and greet for its program from 10 a.m. to noon at Framingham State University Field off Maple Street. There are still openings for cheerleaders in all grade levels. There are openings for football in grades: 2nd/3rd grade team, 4th grade, 5th grade and 6th grade only.

4. The Framingham Frogs swim team will be holding a fundraising car wash today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at CJ's Northside Grill. Chris Gagen, the owner of CJ's, is a former Frog.

5. The Boston Whitecaps will be seeking a perfect season, as they face the New York Rumble  tonight at Bowditch Field at 7.

In their last match before the playoffs, the Whitecaps play the Rumble for the fourth time this season. Female fans can enjoy $10 tickets Saturday as the Whitecaps seek their tenth win of the year.

This may be Framingham's last time to see the professional sports team in town, as the Whitecaps will host the the Eastern Conference playoff game on Saturday, June 29 at 1 p.m. at Hormel Stadium in Medford.

BONUS: It is game 5 of the Stanley Cup finals. The Bruins are in Chicago. Puck drops at 8 p.m.
