Framingham Artists Collaborate to Bring Children of Eden to the Stage

The Wellesley Players will perform the family-friendly and touching Stephen Schwartz musical Children of Eden in the Charles Mosesian Theater at the Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown this weekend.

Children of Eden, music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, book by John Caird, tells two stories from the Book of Genesis with a dramatic and clever flair. In the first act, Father creates the world, the animal kingdom, and humanity in the Garden of Eden. Adam and Eve explore the garden before stumbling upon the Tree of Life. What happens next to Adam and his family is the stuff of legend, and is creatively set to music by Schwartz, a master of his craft. 

Act two focuses on the story of Noah’s Ark, with Noah (portrayed by Framingham High School music teacher, Dan Moore), gathering two of every animal before Father floods the world to wipe the slate clean. Noah’s children, however, bring their own drama onto the ark, and the complicated relationships on board the ship prove no small obstacle for the family to overcome. 

“I’m excited to bring this classic story to the Wellesley community,” said Framingham native, director Chris Brindley, who is making his Wellesley Players debut with this endeavor.

“This musical takes the oldest story ever told and gives it a new life, and this wonderful cast is going to bring that energy to audiences, said Brindley, who is joined by Wellesley Players veteran music director Chris Holownia and choreographer Emily Craver.

Heading up the cast in the role of Cain, and also designer of the set is another Framingham alum, Nick Sulfaro. 

Brindley, Craver and Sulfaro are excited to collaborate after years of theatrical experiences in the Framingham school system and beyond.

Friends since middle school, these three are now well on their artistic paths. 

Craver, now living in New York City after graduating from Skidmore College with a degree in Dance, is an independent artist working as a dancer and choreographer.

Sulfaro received his BFA in Acting from Emerson College and is a professional actor and designer with recent credits at Stoneham Theatre, New Repertory Theatre, and the Huntington Theatre Company.

Brindley received his BA in Theatre Education/Acting from Emerson College and serves as the Artistic Director for Belmont High School Theatre Department and Producer of Weston Drama Workshop in residence at Regis College.
