Photographer Wins Four Blue Ribbons

Paula Swift of Paula Swift Photography, Inc. was awarded six ribbons at the Professional Photographer's Association of Massachusetts 2012 Convention.

Paula Swift, a certified professional photographer and owner of Paula Swift Photography won six ribbons at the Professional Photographers Association of
Massachusetts 2012 Convention held Feb. 24-27 in Plymouth.

On Feb. 25, as part of the convention, there was an image competition with 128 entries. The competition is judged by a 7-member panel of professional photographers from across the United States. Each image print or digital image
is judged on 12 elements.

Swift won four blue ribbons and two red ribbons. Each print has a special title, given by Swift, to help with the judging. Photographers were allowed to enter a maximum of six entries at the convention.

  • “Playland at Sunset” Blue Ribbon
  • “Catching a Prince” Blue Ribbon
  • “Hands of Time” Blue Ribbon
  • “Refreshing” Blue Ribbon
  • “Hello, World” Red Ribbon
  • “Still Life” Red Ribbon


“Twelve elements have been defined as necessary for the success of an art piece or image. Any image, art piece or photograph will reveal some measure of all 12 elements, while a visually superior example will reveal obvious consideration of each one," according to the Professional Photographer's of America.

This week, Swift is participating in the Professional Photographer's of North East District Competition, which begins today. She shipped her prints to Ohio last Friday.

After that, Swift will compete in the  International Photographic Competition in July.

Swift, who opened her Framingham studio in 2006, has been a professional photographer for 17 years.

Prior to opening her studio, Swift was a photojournalist for ten years at the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. She has won several national awards including the recognition of her and the photography staff at the Worcester Telegram & Gazette as finalists for the 1999 Pulitzer Prize in Feature Photography.

Profiled as one of the best family photographers in the Boston area, Swift brings unique insight from her photojournalist days to her work as a lifestyle photographer.
