Famed Chef Tells National Audience Jack's Abby IPL His Favorite Beer

Famed chef Michael Leviton on CBS This Morning talking about a fall New England menu featuring roasted duck, said his favorite beer was an IPL from Jack's Abby Brewing in Framingham.

Seven-time James Beard Foundation nominated chef Michael Leviton, owner of Lumiere restaurant in Newton and Area Four in Cambridge, appeared on CBS This Morning: Saturday to discuss using locally grown ingredients and to showcase a New England fall menu, featuring roasted duck.

And what did the Food & Wine magazine winner for best chef in America in 2000, pair with his roasted duck, not a wine but "his favorite beer."

Leviton paired his roasted duck with Jack's Abby Brewing's Hoponius Union, an IPL.

"I've never seen duck and beer paired together," said CBS This Morning co-host Vinita Nair. "but I'm sure I'm going to love it."

Jack's Abby Brewing said on its Facebook page "We were quite surprised."

And then added, 'We were much happier to see that on TV than Jabby Brau going down the drain."

Hoponius Union combines lager yeast fermentation and West Coast IPA hops. Jack's Abby Brewery describes it as "Our India style Pale Lager is like a traditional IPA but with a twist - it’s fermented cold and aged for extended periods. A blend of classic American hops creates a huge tropical fruit and citrusy hop aroma. A dry finish accentuates the pleasant bitterness and hop profile."

As Hoponius Union uses locally sourced ingredients, it is easy to understand why it Leviton's favorite beer. The chef is passionate about using locally grown and sustainable ingredients.
