Framingham Woman Opens Hair Salon in Westborough

West Main Hair specializes in perms and coloring.

A Westborough location synonymous with haircuts has been restyled.

West Main Hair opened Tuesday at 3 West Main St., where Phil's Barber Shop closed on Sept. 29. Phil Evangelous retired, ending 46 years at that location, on the Westborough rotary.

West Main Hair owner Ashley Lee, of Framingham, said the site's location and tradition appealed to her -- but presents a special challenge, too.

“For 45 years, (this was a) barber shop,” Lee said.

“So, women didn’t know about (coming) here for a woman’s cut.”

West Main Hair will specialize in women's perms and coloring, Lee said. Men's cuts are available too.

Lee opened the shop after having her own salon in Korea for five years, and working for salon on Boston's Newbury Street, and then Brookline and Natick.

Lee said she moved to this area eight years ago. She attends church in Hopkinton.

“This barber shop is very cozy. There’s lots of traffic," Lee said.

West Main Hair's hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday, and 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Walk-ins are welcomed. For appointments, one should call 508-734-0446.
