Jack's Abby Wants You To Drink Its Framingham Lager And Help Revitalize Downtown

To celebrate its third anniversary, Jack's Abby Brewing will release Framingham Lager, a new beer that will give back to the Framingham community that embraced the small business.

Three years ago, three brothers launched a small brewing company in downtown Framingham, with a handful of employees.

Next week, Jack’s Abby Brewing will celebrate its third anniversary, having won world and national awards for its brews.

And to celebrate, the company will release Framingham Lager, a new beer that will give back to the Framingham community that embraced the small business.

"We’ve been honored and humbled by the tremendous support the community has shown us over the past three years. We feel that the best way to give back to the community is to invest in it," said Jack Hendler, who founded the brewery with his younger brothers Eric and Sam.

Framingham Lager will be released on Wednesday, June 18. A percentage of the proceeds will go to the Framingham Downtown Renaissance organization, and its efforts to revitalize downtown Framingham.

Framingham Lager is a traditional American style lager brewed with 100 percent 2-row malt and 100 percent real hops, no adjuncts. Draft will only be available in Framingham, 12-packs will be distributed throughout Massachusetts.

"We wanted to brew something that everyone could enjoy. Framingham Lager is a traditional American pale lager, but brewed without any of the adjuncts common to the style," said Hendler.

In 2013, the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce named Jack's Abby Brewing its small business of the year.

Jack's Abby Brewing is a family-owned craft brewery on Morton Street, with more than 20 employees.  The company is known for focusing entirely on craft lagers, using traditional German brewing techniques to create new lagers.

The name is a nod to Jack's wife, Abby, and also to the traditions of the European monks who handcrafted beer in their abbeys.

Jack’s Abby Brewing’s flagship lager, Hoponius Union, is an India Pale Lager, and also its best seller. This new style combines cold fermentation and extended lagering with a bold west coast hop profile to create a huge tropical fruit and citrusy hop aroma with a dry, crisp finish.

The company also likes to experiment too. An example is S’Mores & Dagger, released last month. The brew is the company's Smoke & Dagger aged with graham cracker crumbs, fluff and cocoa nibs.

Jack's Abby has a tasting room open to the public Wednesdays through Saturdays from noon to 8 p.m. Besides trying samples of favorite and new releases, attendees can also purchase six packs and growlers to go, as well as take a tour of the company.
