Mexican Restaurant Opens on Route 9

Taqueria Mexico opened on Friday afternoon in Framingham and will be open this weekend from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

After months of renovations, Taqueria Mexico opened Friday afternoon.

The restaurant occupies the space of former Top Shelf restaurant, which closed in January, and PC Healthstop, which moved into a new location across Route 9.

The renovations and expansion, means the Mexican restaurant can seat up to 80 people. Its entrance is now located in the front of the building. The walls are now painted a festive orange and are decorated with Mexican items. The place is open and bright.

The restaurant is the second one for the Olmedo family. Framingham owner Carlos Olmedo's family also owns Taqueria Mexico in Waltham.

Taqueria Mexico in Framingham was approved for a restaurant license earlier this month by Selectmen. The restaurant will go before Selectmen later this summer for its liquor license. The restaurant plans to have a mariachi band performing on Friday night, July 26.

Stop by the restaurant and tell them you heard they were open from Framingham Patch. Then post your thoughts on the food and atmosphere here on Framingham Patch. We'd love to hear your reviews.

When Framingham Patch first reported the restaurant was coming to Framingham in March, Olmedo  said his family has "been in business about 25 years. It all started with my grandparents when they came to the states, looking for a better life. When they opened Taqueria Mexico they needed all the help they could get. They even had me helping them doing salsa and other small chores around the restaurant at about (age) 5 or 6 years old. So since I can remember I always have been part of it. So you can say it's a family business."

"My grandparents later passed it down to my parents, which now run the one in Waltham. Over the years I have learned all the traits in the restaurant business, especially how to make good mole sauce," said Olmedo. "Now with the help of my parents, we decided to open in Framingham."

Olmedo said they chose Framingham because it is a "great city" that needed a "little spice." Olmedo said his restaurant will offer the spice with "delicious salsas, enchiladas, quesadillas" and more authentic Mexican dishes.

He said the "great service and great prices" will keep the customers coming back.
