The Tufts Health Plan Foundation awarded healthy aging grants to two Framingham organizations.

Mi Vida, Mi Salud was awarded $43,802. Mi Vida, Mi Salud conducts healthy aging classes, provides transportation and assists older adults with medical coverage and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program enrollment.

The United Way of Tri-County, with its headquarters in Framingham, received $14,957 for its TeleCheck program, which launched in September 2013.

TeleCheck is a service designed to connect isolated seniors in the community with a compassionate peer. The service is a collaboration between the United Way of Tri-County, Bay Path Elder Services and Advocates. Once a week, a trained peer volunteer will call a senior who has been referred to the program. These identified seniors have exhibited behavior, such as isolation, loss of a loved one or a serious illness that would benefit from more interaction. Other seniors may suffer from myriad psychological and sociological issues that have gone unattended.

The two grants were part of more than $1.6 million in funding the Watertown foundation awarded to nonprofit organizations.
