Twinkies Return to Framingham

If you see Twinkies in stores in Framingham, post a comment to let your neighbors know where they can purchase them.

The iconic Hostess Twinkies returned to Wal-Mart this weekend and are expected to hit all other store shelves on Monday, July 15, reported USA Today.

The snack food left shelves following the liquidation of parent company Hostess Brands last year.

By today, July 14, 3,000 of the 4,000 Wal-Mart stores were to have the spongy yellow cakes in stores. Did you see them in Framingham?

By late next week, stores will also have Hostess Mini Muffins and fried Fruit Pies, said Wal-Mart spokeswoman Veronica Marshall to USA Today.

Coffee Cakes, Ho Hos, Orange CupCakes, Suzy Qs and Zingers will be available by August. Sno-Balls will arrive in the fall.
Early last year, Hostess filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy — its second such filing in a decade. In the fall, after a bitter fight with one of its unions, the company received a judge's permission to close and sell its brands to the highest bidders, reported the Los Angeles Times.

In recent months, Sara Lee owner Gruno Bimbo picked up the Beefsteak bread business, and Flowers Foods Inc. got bread labels such as Wonder Bread. McKee Foods Corp., maker of Little Debbie snack cakes, took over the Drake's line of goods, reported the LA Times.

Private equity firms Apollo Global Management, which owns Carl's Jr. parenT CKE Restaurants Inc., and C. Dean Metropoulos & Co., which runs beer favorite Pabst Brewing Co., claimed the rights to the bulk of Hostess' most popular snack cakes in March.
