Seven Reasons Why Walden Behavioral Care Should Move to the Mt Wayte Shopping Center

I was recently driving past the Mt Wayte Shopping Center at the corner of Mt. Wayte Avenue and Franklin Street. It occurred to me that it would be an excellent location for Walden’s Framingham facility, so I took this photo of the site.

Here are seven reasons why the site is an excellent fit:

1.      It’s already commercially zoned. Walden is a for-profit business and belongs in a commercially zoned district.

2.      Walden’s website explains the choice of the name Walden,”Dr. Koman has always treasured the natural beauty of Walden Pond. When he created Walden Behavioral Care in 2003, he chose this name because to him, Walden reflected peace, healing, and recovery.”  The site overlooks Farm Pond;  not the pond where Thoreau wrote his famous book, but it is lovely. The site also adjoins Farm Pond Park, which is a peaceful place to walk and enjoy the beauty of the pond.

3.      Located at the corner of Franklin and Mt. Wayte, it’s much more easily accessible than the Marist site.

4.    In the immediate vicinity are medical offices, the Kathleen Daniel Healthcare Center, other commercial offices across Franklin Street, the Perini building is diagonally across, and a plumbing supplies dealer is next door on Franklin St.

5.      Metrowest Medical Center is close by. An ambulance responding to a heart attack or suicide attempt will have a much quicker run to the emergency room than from the Marist property.

6.      The existing buildings would have to be knocked down and a new building erected, but no one would miss those storefronts. They’re an eyesore.

7.      Dr. Koman would become a hero to the people of Framingham for replacing a blighted shopping center with a modern hospital facility.

So, Dr Koman, how about checking it out?
