5 Things You Need To Know Today: June 9

Stapleton Elementary's Golden Eagle 5K, Congressman Ed Markey in Framingham this morning, spring recital at the Performing Arts Center of MetroWest and more featured in today's column.

Our daily column, 5 Things You Need to Know Today, will help you to get your day started and offer you some fodder for water cooler conversation.

1. Stapleton Elementary School is holding its Golden Eagle 5K Fun Run this morning. race starts at 10 a.m. You can register this morning. Registration for ages 14-plus is $25, 13 and younger is $15. Participate in the half-mile for $10. Maximum fee for a family is $60.  All proceeds benefit the elementary school's physical education department. Race starts at Walsh Middle School, with registration and bib pickup from 9 to 9:45 a.m.

2. Framingham Congressman Ed Markey will be in Framingham this morning at his campaign office on Route 9 West. Stop by 330 Worcester Rd at 11:30 a.m. He is scheduled to be there at 11:45 a.m. Markey is running for the senate seat vacated by Secretary of State John Kerry. He is being challenged by Republican Gabriel Gomez, a former U.S. Naval seal and businessman. The state-wide election is Tuesday, June 25.

3. The Performing Arts Center of MetroWest will hold its spring recitals starting at 1 p.m.

4. Just a reminder, while school is still open through June 26, the main Framingham Library is closed on Sundays until the fall.
