Framingham Storm Central: No School today. Framingham Town Hall delayed opening, will open at 10 a.m.

Our daily column, 5 Things You Need to Know Today, will help you to get your day started and offer you some fodder for water cooler conversation.

1. Congrats to Framingham and Marian high schools for qualifying for the semifinals in the Massachusetts State Drama Festival. They both will compete on Saturday. Framingham High is hosting several schools Saturday, and will perform at 4 p.m. Marian High will travel to Brockton High Saturday and perform at 10:30 a.m. its entry Dog Sees God.

Tonight, the Framingham High School Drama Company will hold a benefit performance of its entry Dark of the Moon  at Framingham High at 7. Tickets are $10 and will sold at the door.

Dark of the Moon is set in the Appalachian Mountains. The play is a mythical tale of a witch boy, who becomes human after falling in love with a human girl named Barbara Allen. The play is based on a folk song - The Ballad of Barbara Allen. The play raises several moral issues, while telling the tale of star-crossed lovers. Students Connor Fallon and Olivia Wiles have the lead roles of John and Barbara.

2. Amazing Things Arts Center begins a two-week run of its production of Godspell tonight at 8. Tickets are $23. $22 for students and seniors, $20 members and $12 for children age 12 and under.

3. Many Framingham schools have been celebrating reading and Dr. Seuss since last Friday. Brophy Elementary sent us photos of an event at its school, but we'd love to have photos of events that happened at yoor school, too.

4. This week is National Consumer Protection Week.

5. April 25 will bring a change in airport security: TSA will allow small pocket knives and a few other previously banned items aboard planes, according to ABC News. ABC News said the change, which pertains to U.S. flights, will include knives with blades less than 6 cm, golf clubs, ski poles and other sporting sticks. Baseball bats will remain on a no-carry list. Razor blades and box cutters will also continue to be banned.

Framingham Director of Highway and Sanitation said the Recycling Drop-Off Center will be closed today, March 8.

Framingham Town Manager says Town Hall will have a delayed opening until 10 a.m. for non-essential individuals.

Due to the inclement weather all instructional classes, to include group exercise classes through a 1PM start and childwatch babysitting service have been cancelled at the MetroWest YMCA.

MBTA says there are NO delays, at of 7:55 a.m., with its Framingham/Worcester commuter line.

Framingham DPW says it may re-access the curbside trash collection situation in a couple of hours. Framingham Patch will post updates as we get them.

Mass Bay Community College has cancelled all classes today as well as all activities, including its Framingham campus.

TRASH/RECYCLING UPDATE: The Town’s Sanitation Division of the Department of Public Works will be collecting curbside trash today. Unfortunately, the contractor for the collection of curbside recyclables has chosen not to collect today. Friday’s curbside collection of recyclables will take place: Saturday March 9.
