Jim Stockless To Run for Framingham School Committee

Stockless is the first person to declare his candidacy for one of three Framingham School Committee seats.

Framingham Town Meeting member Jim Stockless pulled paper for Framingham School Committee Wednesday morning and formerly announced he is running for one of the three seats, that will be on the April ballot.

There are three, three-year seats on the ballot and two of the incumbent candidates Carol Phalen and David Miles have said they will not seek re-election.

"I am asking for your vote in the election for Framingham School Committee. I would like to use my 15 years of experience as a parent volunteer and education advocate in the Framingham Public Schools to help build upon our remarkable successes and work on the areas where we need to improve," said Stockless in his announcement.

Stockless served as PTO President in three of Framingham's schools, as an officer in the Townwide PTO, as a Precinct 6 Town Meeting member, and as the Vice-Chair of the Standing Education Committee. He also has been active in the local Stand for Children chapter and advocated for Framingham schools on Beacon Hill.

"Two of my three children have graduated from Framingham High School. My youngest daughter is in the Class of 2017. All three children have reaped countless benefits from their experiences in classrooms and through extra-curricular activities. Our town has some extraordinary educators and administrators and the taxpayers of Framingham recognize the value of strong schools," said Stockless.

"Serving on the Framingham School Committee will allow me to pay it forward. The strength of the Framingham Public Schools has had a positive impact on my family and, if elected, I will do my utmost to ensure that we enhance our strengths and work effectively to close gaps that prevent any student from reaching their full potential," said Stockless.

Nomination papers are available in the Framingham Town Clerk's office and are due back Jan. 14 with 50 signatures of registered voters.
