Sen. Karen Spilka Named Democrat of the Year By Framingham Committee
The Framingham Democratic Town Committee will hold its annual breakfast on Sunday, March 16 at 10 a.m.
The Framingham Town Democratic Committee will honor Massachusetts Sen. Karen Spilka (D-Ashland), who represents Framingham, as its Democrat of the Year Sunday, March 16 at its annual breakfast.
The breakfast starts at 10 a.m. in the function room at the Framingham
Green Apartments, 136 Maynard Rd. All registered Democrats are welcome attend.
Spilka, the Massachusetts Senate Majority Whip, will be honored for serving The Town of Framingham with distinction and for advocating on behalf of all of our citizens, and is most noted for her tireless representation of issues most commonly affecting the rights of women, children and those who are underrepresented, said a press release from the Framingham Democratic Town Committee.
Spilka, who was elected to the senate in 2005:
- Co-authored a bill that revolutionizes the way the state does business, increasing access to capital for small businesses so they can hire more workers
- Spearheaded the creation of the MetroWest Regional Transit Authority, increasing mobility for employees, seniors and the disabled in MetroWest
- Passed Jenny’s Law in memory of a young mother from Ashland, changing the law to make it harder for life insurance companies to deny claims and helping families throughout the Commonwealth
- Successfully advocated for a provision in the education reform bill that will determine adequacy in quality public school funding
In addition to honoring Sen. Spilka, each of the Democratic candidates for Framingham town-wide office will be given an opportunity to address the attendees to discuss their campaign issues and answer questions. The Town of Framingham will hold its election on Tuesday, April 1.
The Framingham Town Committee will be collecting food and household articles for donation to one of Framingham’s shelters. All members are asked, and all guests are encouraged to bring imperishable food items of household goods to add to our donation.
In addition, members are encouraged to bring breakfast items to be served that morning.
