Domestic Violence - The System Needs to Change

Do you have a family member or friend who is a
victim of domestic violence?  Are you
frustrated with the way the judicial system handles these cases?  Are you ready to help change that?

Join
us on Saturday, March 29, 2013 from 3:00
– 4:30 pm in the Costin Room at the Framingham Library at 49 Lexington Street
in Framingham.
  Our goal is to
organize a coalition of people to advocate for changes in the system.

Domestic
violence cases take years to come to trial in the Massachusetts Courts.  During that time, abusers live free and
victims live in fear.  We believe that
making these cases a priority, and moving them in a more efficient and
expeditious process can save lives.

This
is an informational meeting where we are hoping to gather together people who
want to help their loved one, but are frustrated with the response of the
courts.  It can be tough to convince a
victim to leave their abuser, and the longer they stay with their abuser, the
tougher it is to convince them to leave.
A court system that continually pushes back a trial date on these cases
reinforces in the victim that they are not important, a message their abuser is
already doing a good job of sending to them.
This is not about pointing fingers or placing blame.  This is about working for improvements in the
system that will benefit everyone.
