Make A Tote with A Twist

Make a Tote Bag With a
Twist!

Free Classes offered Thursday, May 1, 8, 15 & 22nd from 1:30 p.m. – 4 p.m.

The bag is a version of what's called a "Japanese Twist" style bag.

It's made with 12 squares, 4 triangles, 2 straps, and a lining with pockets.  (I like to use the same fabric for the bottom, triangles andstraps are cut from the same material.)

We will make the largerversion using (12) 8" squares & (2) 8 1/2" squares cut in half for the 4 triangles. The straps will be made with (2) 28x5" strips with 28x2" batting. Length of strap can be adjusted.  28" allows for comfortable over the shoulder use.

The lining requires (2) 22 1/4"

squares.  Scraps are used for pockets.

Supplies needed:
1/4 yard of (2) coordinating fabrics.  One of these should be your "focus" fabric. Quilting cottons or home decorating fabrics. (Don't forget to check out your closet for those wild paisley shirts you don't wear anymore but can't bear to part with!)

1/2 yard of fabric for bottom, triangles and straps. You can use fat quarters (2) of each fabric or scraps that are at least 9" square scraps for handles need to be at least  4x22" - 2 of them!

1 1/3 yard of fabric for lining and pockets.

Portable sewing machine. ( You
can use 1 of 2 that are available at the center.) Thread, Pins. Fabric scissors, rotary cutter, mat and ruler.
