The Callahan Book Discussion Group

The Hare with the Amber Eyes by Edmund deWaal is the title for the

January 30th meeting. This true story of one family’s art and loss
has everything:  style, seduction, pre
World War I high society in Europe, Nazis and their Austrian collaborators, a
family member taking refuge in Japan, and the loss and eventual recovery of
over 200 pieces of Netsuke—pocket-size Japanese sculptures. To minimize your expenses, we select titles readily

available through the Minuteman Library Network---titles without a long Hold or
Reserve List. Thus we do not select current Best Sellers. Usually we do not select books longer than 400 pages—though there may be exceptions. Some chosen titles may be available on Kindles, Nooks, other digital/electronic devices, and on CDs.
We welcome everyone to our enlightening, friendly, and
lively discussions about these titles, authors and other aspects of life and
literature. As an added attraction you will meet readers as excited about
reading as you are. You will enjoy the discussion more if you read the book
chosen for the month—however that is not a requirement for attending the
meetings. Even if you read the book and do not like it, please come--your ideas and remarks help enliven the discussion. For more information
and questions: contact Eleanor Brody, Coordinator by phone at 508-872-6162 or through her business email clutterclear@aol.com
