Fund Established for Double Amputee Motorcycle Crash Victim

A fund established in the Framingham State University student's name seeks to raise $150,000 to help his long recovery and make improvements to his home.

The girlfriend of a Framingham State University student in a motorcycle crash in October, that forced doctors to amputate both his legs, has established a fund to help him with the cost of his recovery and to make improvements to his home.

Grace Waterhouse created the fund earlier this month. Her goal is to raise $150,000.

As of midnight Tuesday (Nov. 19) 120 individuals has raised $6,150.

On Oct. 19,  Framingham State University junior Anthony Spinelli was involved in a near fatal motorcycle accident.

Spinelli was heading west on Route 9 around 11:30 p.m. on his way to see his girlfriend, when he struck a guardrail and was thrown over into the eastbound lane. Upon landing he was struck by a car, severing his left leg, now amputated above the knee and damaging the right leg, which later required amputation below the knee.

Waterhouse said on the crowd funding page he also suffered a "broken pelvis, broken right femur, broken left ulnar, and three broken fingers."

For two weeks, Spinelli was at UMass Medical center in Worcester, where he had four surgeries and multiple blood transfusions.

On Nov. 2 , Spinelli was moved to Spaulding Rehabilitation Center in Boston, as part of his long recovery period.

Spinelli is scheduled for a skin graft for the right knee Wednesday.

And he could be discharged from Spaulding as early as next week, according to the The Anthony Spinelli Support Facebook Page.
