Help Framingham High Student Get Needed Surgery

A family friend has set up a GoFundme.com account to help a Framingham family pay for a complicated, expensive surgery out-of-state for their high school daughter, who has Down Syndrome.

Jordan Caira is an adorable teen, who loves school and theatre. She is active in the Framingham High School Drama Company.

But Jordan also has her struggles. She has Down syndrome, and has had many surgeries in her young life. Down syndrome is a genetic condition in which a person has 47 chromosomes instead of the usual 46.

In the past couple of years alone, she has had three surgeries. And now, she is in need of another complicated two-part surgery, that can only be done in Ohio.

The Caira family has found a hospital in Cincinnati, that can perform the complicated jaw surgery Jordan needs. It can be done February vacation, but the family's health insurance will not may for the entire cost of the cutting edge surgery for a teen with Down syndrome.

So family friend Andrea Alpert Rubin has started a GoFundMe.com account to help the family.

"Please find it in your hearts to make a donation of any amount to help Jordan and her family, get this procedure done and take the burden off of the family financially," wrote Rubin on GoFundMe.
"The expenses to get there, are more than the family can handle and unfortunately for the Cairas, this is the only hospital to handle her case," wrote Rubin, when creating the GoFundMe.com. "All donations are so appreciated and of all people, Cheryl would be there for anyone of us to advocate for our children."
The fund was started on Dec. 12; and as of midnight today (Dec.19) the fund is half way there to its $4,000 goal.

In six days, 32 people have donated money and raised $2,053.

The family is also selling t-shirts to help pay for the surgical expenses. The shirt says "True friends don't count chromosomes." The shirts are $20 and the family is hoping to sell 50 shirts.
