Second Grader Battling Leukemia Home; Blood Drive To Benefit Her Hospital Next Week

"Thank you to all those who have been there for us during this difficult time - words cannot express how grateful we are to have so much support," said Emma's mom.

Dunning Elementary School second grade student Emma Tierney "has finished her inpatient treatment at Children's Hospital and is home," her mom told Framingham Patch.

"She now begins her 2 years of outpatient treatment at the Jimmy Fund Clinic in Boston," said Jessica Tierney. "Emma is doing great and is so happy to get back into a more normal routine. She is looking forward to spending more time with her friends & family and starting the new year back at school."

Back in October, Jessica and Tom received the news their oldest daughter, 7, had leukemia. The couple also have a second daughter Addie, age 4.

Emma immediately began treatment and was at Children's Hospital in Boston until last week.

Dunning Elementary School, the Tierney's co-workers and the Framingham community helped raised more than $22,500 for the family's expenses in less than a week.

"Thank you to all those who have been there for us during this difficult time - words cannot express how grateful we are to have so much support," said Emma's mom.

Dunning Elementary PTO organized a restaurant fundraiser and with the blessing of the Tierney family and Children's Hospital in Boston is holding a blood drive in Emma's name for the hospital on Tuesday, Nov. 26.

There are now about 15 slots left to donate blood.
