Autism Charity Founder Runs First Marathon

Doug Flutie, who founded the Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism, now headquartered in Framingham, ran his first marathon Monday.

Doug Flutie went to Hopkinton to cheer on his team of runners supporting his charity The Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation for Autism, according to the non-profit organization's Facebook page.

But according to the Framingham-based organization, its founder opted instead to run in the 118th Boston Marathon.

"He came to cheer on our team and simply couldn't resist the challenge! Without training, he completed his first Boston Marathon," wrote the non-profit's Facebook page.

Flutie, 51, a Natick native who now lives in Florida, finished the Boston Marathon in 5 hours and 23 minutes, according to the Boston Athletic Association.

The Foundation had more than 20 runners participating in the 118th running of the Boston Marathon to raise money for the non-profit organization.
