Metrowest Special Needs Resource Fair

Learn about special needs resources in Metrowest at a great event on Sunday, Feb 10th. Famliies of all abilities are welcome.

It may only be the first week in February but many of my fellow Moms are worrying about camps this time of year.  Where do you send your kids?  Will they know anyone there? Can we afford it?  Which weeks should we sign up for and who else is going?I bring this up because this feeling of wanting to know if you have the right camp is something many parents of children with special needs feel all year round.  The issue is that every child is unique and when you add to the mix a different ability it leads parents down a path many have not taken before.

Parents may need to look for a social group, a feeding specialist, a physical therapist or occupational therapist. They may need financial assistance, an inclusion team sport or a tutor, who is not only experienced and acclaimed, but nearby. But unlike camps, many of the resources listed above are hidden gems since these wonderful providers often do not have the resources to advertise themselves. They often survive on referrals and sometimes don't have the technical ability to even have a website.Such was the idea behind the Metrowest Special Needs Resource Fair.  As chairperson for the Natick SEPAC ( Special Education Parent Advisory Council) www.naticksepac.com, we often have providers contact us to promote their businesses.

Our board decided last year it would be great to provide one stop shopping for parents looking for resources in the Natick/Metrowest area.  With more than 50 vendors listed on our site http://www.natickps.org/districtinfo/sepac/fair.cfm, we are looking forward to having families from the area come to Natick High School Sunday, Feb 10th from 1-3pm.As a busy Mom, I always look to multi-task and this event will give families with children of all ages and abilities the chance to network, meet other vendors and families and take some time to focus on great resources here in our own backyard.

We hope to see you then.
