6th, 7th, 8th Grade Football: Flyers Soar Through Home Opener

It's that time of year again where your Sunday afternoons are captivated by the pigskin. With your local Framingham Youth football boys of fall in action every Sunday from here until hopefully December, you can catch all the recaps of the game right here at the Framingham Patch.

With inclement weather shutting down the games on the first of the month (along with 128, where dozens of Flyers and Flyer Faithful were stranded for an hour due to flooding), the league opener was pushed back to Tuesday the third. While not ideal, the Flyers did not let that stop them as they went on to defeat Norwood at the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade levels. With a short week of practice, the Flyers welcomed Wellesley at the 6th and 7th grade levels, and Milton at the 8th grade level.

The 6th grade 'C' team started the day for the Flyers with their 16-12 victory over the Raiders. Despite Wellesley scoring on the very first play from Scrimmage, the Flyers were able to return the favor thanks to the hard running of Shane Ayotte, who tore off a 68 yard run on the Flyers first offensive possession to make the score 8-6 after the extra point. Even more impressive was Ayotte's 49 yard run to the Wellesley 31 yard-line, dragging 21 other players with him in a pile. That's power. The Flyer defense also had a rewarding day with Andrew Keane making an interception and the rest of the defense stopping the Raiders on downs several times. Nicholas Parga caught a touchdown pass in the fourth quarter to put the game out of Wellesley's reach despite them scoring a late touchdown.

In the 7th grade, the Flyers recorded a 28-8 win over the visiting Raiders.
Quarterback Evan Sleight rushed for two touchdowns and passed for one while Johnsued Lanzo tacked on another to bring the Flyers to victory. Lanzo also showcased his speed by chasing down a Wellesley player who recovered a blocked extra point and tried to return it for a conversion. The Raiders were held scoreless until the third quarter. Benjamin Burgess caught the lone touchdown pass from Sleight.

Finally, the 8th grade 'A' Team defeated the Milton Wildcats by a score of 38-28. The Flyers opened up the scoring with a first quarter touchdown screen pass from Aaron Shapiro to Dedrick Meuse. Jake Modica would convert the extra point to make the score 8-0. Milton responded by orchestrating their own touchdown drive capitalized by a reverse play that allowed them to find the endzone. However, they would fail to convert the extra point. Milton would take the lead in the 2nd quarter with their hard running straight at the defense. The Flyers would the game at 14 after Jaylen Avila-Bailey's 56 yard run and later take the lead on a 63 yard run from William Luz. Following the theme of this tight game, Milton would tie the game at the start of the third quarter, but it would not stay that way for long. Maxwell Bernstein would come up with a fumble that set up a a 27 yard pass from Nicholas Paget to Liam Doran and then a 15 yard touchdown pass from Paget to Cameron Haugabrook. The Flyers began to pull away in the fourth quarter as Niko McLaughlin recovered a blocked punt and ran it back for a touchdown to make the score 32-20. Marco Turcios would cap off the scoring for the Flyers with a touchdown run. Milton would score one more time but would fail to recover the onside kick, thus sealing the victory for the Flyers.

With all three teams standing at 2-0, next week brings a very interesting matchup against the Sudbury Warriors held at Framingham State University. Come down and support your Framingham boys of fall!

Go Flyers!
