6th, 7th Grade Down Rockets; 8th Grade's Wings Clipped

As we quickly approach the final stretch of the season, let it be noted that it has been quite the year for the Framingham Flyers. This weekend once again did not disappoint, as those who attended were treated to three great games.

The Flyer C team defeated the Rockets by a final score of 42-19. Runningback Shane Ayotte had a monster game, scoring four touchdowns (three of them for 63 yards, 68 yards, and 55 yards respectively) in total while racking up some ridiculous yardage. Needham led 12-8 at the end of the first quarter, but that quickly changed as Ayotte and the Flyer defense, led by lineman Jack Corsi and Nicholas Novello, stifled the Rocket offense. In addition to Ayotte's four scores Corsi blocked a punt that was recovered in the endzone for a touchdown by Novello, and quarterback Jonathan Beverly completed a pass to Zack Blumer who was brought down at the one yard line, then deliviered a one yard touchdown strike to Brendan Downes.

The B team flexed their offensive muscles on their way to a 34-0 victory over the Rockets. Right away, quarterback Evan Sleight found Benjamin Burgess for a 45 yard pass touchdown to make the score 6-0. The Flyers would stop the Rockets on defense and once again score, this time on a 35 yard rush touchdown to cap a drive highlighted by a sweep from James Draughn and a pass to David Reyes, both for first downs. To open the second quarter, Reyes would come up with an interception and Sleight would hook up with Burgess for another score, this time for 42 yards in the air. After stopping the Rockets once again, the Flyers turned the ball over on downs. A tackle at the line of scrimmage by Ben Chapman and a sack by Jason Klein set up a sure passing down for Needham and Bobby Manion came up with an interception with 48 seconds left in the half. Sleight, however, threw an interception of his own, but Reyes recorded his second interception of the game and almost returned it for a touchdown but stepped out of bounds. At the half, the score was Framingham 20, Needham 0.

And that was only the first half.

In the second half, the Flyers continued to dominate all phases of the game. Draughn came up with an interception and runningback Devin Francis scurried 43 yards for a score to make it 26-0. After kicking to the Rockets, a tackle made by Alejandro Hernandez set up a 4th and 5 situation for Needham, who elected to punt. Johnsued Lanzo took the point 37 yards back to the endzone for a touchdown and after the extra point, the Flyers led 34-0. Lanzo would come up with an interception in the 4th quarter and return it for a touchdown, but it would be called off by a block in the back penalty. 34-0 was the final score.

Pardon the lack of detail for the 8th grade game, an unexpected trip to the emergency room did not allow me to take copious notes for this one.

Despite starting off strong, the 8th grade team, stricken with injuries, fell to the Rockets on Saturday evening. Marco Turcios recovered a fumble for Framingham while Nicholas Paget scored the lone Flyers' touchdown.

The final two games of the regular season will take place here in Framingham. Next week, the 6th and 7th grade teams look to remain perfect and wrap up the division while the 8th grade team, some players hopefully returning from injury, will look to return to their winning ways that characterized the beginning of their season. Be sure to come out and support your hometown team as we steadily make our way into the month of November.

Go Flyers!
