6th, 7th Graders Oust Lincoln-Sudbury; 8th Graders Fall to Warriors

With only six days left until the official beginning of Fall, Junior Flyer football is in full swing. Today's games at Framingham State were hard fought and very physical as all three Flyer teams put their perfect records on the line against the Lincoln-Sudbury Warriors.

The C Team 6th Grade Flyers gave the Warriors all they could handle in their 36-13 victory. Right from the start, Shane Ayotte showed Lincoln-Sudbury what to expect for the day as he ran for a touchdown on the very first drive of the game. For the rest of the first quarter, the Warriors had trouble getting out of their own backfield due in part to the doings of Charles Stokes who recorded a tackle in the backfield. Ayotte would add another touchdown run, this time for 29 yards, to make the score 14-0 at the end of the first quarter.
The Flyers opened the second quarter with a little more variety as Tramiris Anthony caught a pass from Jonathan Beverly to set up good field position, but the Flyers stuck with a winning formula and Ayotte rushed for his third touchdown of the day. After forcing a Lincoln-Sudbury punt, Beverly would connect with Andrew Keane on two consecutive passes to set up first and goal at the three yard line. Scoring the touchdown for Framingham was - you guessed it - Ayotte once again, pushing the score to 28-0 before halftime.
The third quarter was highlighted by strong defensive play by both teams. There was only one touchdown, and no, it wasn't Ayotte this time. Lincoln-Sudbury put themselves on the board to make the score 28-7 going into the fourth quarter. The Warriors would strike once again after an interception by Beverly, but Keane responded with a 75 yard interception return to seal the victory for the Flyers, 36-13.

Despite a tough first quarter, the 7th grade B Team Flyers rolled to a 40-12 win over the Warriors. The Flyers opened the game by recovering the kickoff and scoring on an Even Sleight quarterback keeper set up by a long run by Derek Spindler and a catch by David Reyes. The Warriors opened up their playbook, completing a halfback pass after a reverse to set up a touchdown run of their own. Johnsued Lanzo would put the Flyers ahead with a touchdown run and at the end of the first quarter, the Flyers led 12-6.
After Mitchell Tor and Alexander Smith combined for a huge sack on third down in the second quarter, Sleight and Lanzo would continue to score for the Flyers, with the former scoring on a quarterback bootleg and the latter returning an interception for a 50 yard touchdown. Lincoln-Sudbury would only score once more. Two fumble recoveries by the swarming Flyers defense would put the game away, 40-12 final.

The 8th Grade, A Team Flyers were unable to complete the sweep of the Warriors, losing 14-0. In the most physical game of the day, the turnovers were the difference. The Flyers lost the ball three times and took it away only once, as Cameron Haugabrook recovered a muffed punt. The offense could not get anything going throughout the game despite the completion from Nicholas Paget to Maxwell Bernstein. Lincoln-Sudbury scored twice on run plays, one from the runningback and one from the quarterback on a keeper. The defense hung tough, only allowing those two touchdowns for the entire game. Jonathon Guertin showcased his speed, sacking the quarterback on a safety blitz, but the tough play proved to be just a little too much for the Flyers.

Next week the Flyers travel to Walpole to face the Rebels in what looks to be a very exciting match-up. Be sure to come out and support the boys in a pivotal division game!
