6th Grade Knocked Out; 7th Grade Escapes To Super Bowl

There's no penalty for obstruction in football, thankfully. After last night's heartbreaker for the local nine, it was nice to get up this morning and catch the hometown Flyers make their push in the playoffs.

The 6th grade 'C' Team fell to the Milton Wildcats by a score of 31-20. The Flyer offense had trouble getting it going in the first quarter as the Wildcats, featuring a strong rushing attack with their runningbacks, jumped out to a 6-0 lead. The score would remain the same at the end of the first quarter, despite a fumble by Framingham.
Warren Perez saved a touchdown with a last second tackle to bring down Milton's runningback and on the very next play Andrew Keane recovered a fumble to set up the Flyers offense. An unbelievable pass from Jonathan Beverly to Shane Ayotte resulted in an 85 yard pass touchdown that tied the score at 6 apiece after the missed extra point. The Flyers almost held the Wildcats to keep the score tied at the half but Milton scored on a 4th and 15 sweep to make the score 12-6.
The Flyers received the second half kick and started to move the ball well but a fumble on a completion from Beverly to Nicholas Giombetti proved costly as the Wildcats scored on 4th down again to make the score 18-6. The Wildcats would tack on another score to open the fourth quarter at 24-6.
The Flyers did not go away, however, as a 50 yard reception from Beverly to Tramiris Anthony set up an 8 yard touchdown pass to Ayotte to cut the Flyer deficit to 10. The defense pushed Milton to 4th and 8 but the Wildcats miraculously scored again to push the score to 31-14.
A pass to Anthony for 73 yards led to a pass touchdown to Giombetti, but it was too late as Framingham could not recover the onside kick and the game ended, 31-20 Wildcats.

The 7th grade Flyers escaped with a 14-0 victory in a largely defensive game. At the end of the first quarter, neither team scored and both teams experienced multiple turnover on downs. On 4th and 12, quarterback Even Sleight found Benjamin Burgess for a 40 yard pickup but the Flyers could not cash in. At halftime, the score remained 0-0.
The Raiders tried an onside kick to open the second half but Framingham recovered it. The Flyers could not capitalize on the good field position and turned the ball over on downs. The defense, well rested from halftime, started to click: An Alexander Smith sack and a Jason Klein take-down in the backfield set up another turnover on downs for the Raiders. Framingham would fumble the ball away on the Raider 4 yard line but a Klein sack would lead to another Wellesley turnover on downs going into the fourth quarter.
With the score tied at 0, the Flyers were looking for someone to step up. Enter Matthew Noah. After a 68 yard run to the Raiders' 30 yard line, the flyers gave it right back to Noah who took it in for a 30 yard score and the Flyers' first of the day.
The Raiders were pinned inside their 10 yard line with 6:30 left to play in the game. Bonscot Devlen blew up the Wellesley wildcat offense and Jason Klein sacked the quarterback on 4th down to set up 4th and goal for the Flyers with 2:52 left to play. David Reyes would cap the scoring for the Flyers with a 10 yard touchdown run. After the Bobby Manion extra point, the Flyers led 14-0 and would go on to survive a defensive slugfest.

Congratulations to the 6th grade Flyers for a great season. They certainly have a bright future ahead of them.

The 7th grade Flyers advance to next week's Super Bowl which will be held at Natick High School. The winner of that game will advance to the State Championship which will be held at Bowditch Field.
