Framingham Father & Son Participating in 150th Anniversary of Battle of Gettysburg

More than 25,000 re-enactors, from all 50 states, are expected to take part in the 150th anniversary of Gettysburg Battle this week.

Today is the 150th anniversary of the Battle at Gettysburg - one of the bloodiest battles in American history and the turning point in the U.S. Civil War.

Framingham father and son Bill and Kevin Sager, 15, will be participants in the reenactment of the Gettysburg battles today.

They are part of the 12th Georgia Volunteer Infantry Regiment, which is part of The Liberty Greys 6th Regiment of the 1st Division Army of Northern Virginia - a Confederate unit.

Kevin, who loves history, participated in the encampment at the Framingham Centre Common last year hosted by the Framingham History Center.

At that event he met Larry Todd, another Framingham resident, who is a Confederate Lieutenant in the 12th Georgia Volunteer Infantry. Todd is also participating in the re-enactment of the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg.

Often referred to as the "high water mark of the rebellion," Gettysburg was the war's bloodiest battle with 51,000 casualties.

More than 25,000 re-enactors, from all 50 states, are expected to take part in the 150th anniversary of Gettysburg Battle.

The actual Battle took place from July 1-3 in 1863, and inspired then President Abraham Lincoln to deliver his Gettysburg Address on Nov. 19, 1863. The speech was delivered at the dedication of the Soldiers' National Cemetery four and a half months after the Union armies won the 3-day battle.
