MutualOne Foundation Awards $2,500 Toward Healthcare Services for Uninsured

Framingham has the second-highest rate of uninsured children and the ninth-highest rate of uninsured adults in the state.

With its $2,500 grant from the MutualOne Charitable Foundation, the MetroWest Free Medical Program will be able to enhance its efforts to serve as an entry point to the healthcare system for adults and children in Framingham.

According to Kim Prendergast, executive director of the Medical Program, Framingham has the second-highest rate of uninsured children and the ninth-highest rate of uninsured adults in the state.

Funds from the MutualOne grant will support Program staff and volunteers providing free healthcare services to those who are currently uninsured, and assisting with health insurance applications to move them toward a permanent medical home, said Prendergast.

The $2,500 grant to the MetroWest Free Medical Program was among awards totaling $45,000 made by the Foundation in its most recent round of funding.

The MutualOne Charitable Foundation is a continuation of the Framingham Co-operative Bank Charitable Foundation following the 2012 merger of Framingham Co-operative Bank and Natick Federal Savings Bank.

Since it was originally established in 1998, the Foundation has donated over $2.3 million to charitable, educational, and civic initiatives that improve and enhance the quality of life in Framingham, Natick, and surrounding communities.
