Senior Spotlight: Ben Rabinowitz

For four years, Ben Rabinowitz has been a staple of the Marian High School corridors. Known for his unassuming, kind, generous nature, Ben has embodied the values of Marian, making him an ideal choice for February's Senior Spotlight.

Ben entered Marian as a freshman, matriculating from St. Taricisius School. His experience, similar to that of many beginning ninth graders at Marian, was defined by the meeting of so many new and different people. The transition was “really easy”, because both his middle and high school environments were small. Ben feels as though Marian’s “small community” and ability to “get all the attention and help you need” is its largest asset.  To his point, he finds class with Mr. Gilligan incredibly informative: “His stories help you learn about the subject, and he listens when you have a question”. Ben finds that “the best teachers let you learn and have fun at the same time”, a quality he has found in abundance at Marian. Like many of his classmates, Ben is involved in both athletics and extracurricular clubs at Marian. He advises younger Marian students to “really pay attention and get your work done, even in tougher subjects” so as to maintain and improve upon opportunities for college and subsequent scholarships.

While at Marian, Ben has played baseball—specifically, as a pitcher and second baseman—for four years. He also plays baseball in the Fall for the Town of Milford to supplement his work as a Mustang. Sports are a major part of Ben’s life: he is a dedicated Celtics, Red Sox, and Patriots fan. Though he no longer plays basketball for Marian, he continues to participate in the game in various town-related activities. His favorite athlete is Kevin Durant. Moreover, his most notable sports memory occurred during his attendance at a 2012-2013 Celtics game, during which Paul Pierce hit a buzzer beater to beat the Miami Heat.

When asked to describe himself, Ben stated that he was “funny, athletic, and reliable”. He is a fan of Marian’s chicken fingers and fries, a classic lunch favorite at the school. When not dining in the Marian cafeteria he prefers sushi, specifically the Philadelphia Roll. If able to live anywhere in the world, he would choose to be in Hawaii because of the omnipresent “nice weather and sun”.

Next year, Ben will attend Nichols College with a hefty academic scholarship, a reflection of his hard work at Marian. He plans to study sports management to continue honing his love and knowledge of the world of athletics. During his last few months at Marian, he would like to maintain his spot on the honor roll and really begin preparing for the real world. Ben’s affable nature, in combination with his dedication and commitment to both school work and athletics , will be missed upon his departure in May.
