Funeral Tuesday For Framingham's First Female Selectman - Claire Lavin

Claire Lavin, who lived in Framingham for more than 50 years, served on the Framingham School Committee and was the first female elected to the Framingham Board of Selectmen.

Claire F. Lavin, 80, of Popponesset, Cape Cod and formerly of Framingham,  passed away peacefully at her home on July 2, 2014.

Born in Framingham, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Ann Mahoney. She graduated from Framingham High School in 1951, and went on to attend Framingham Union Hospital School of Nursing. After being a homemaker for many years, she began a long and successful career as a real estate broker, first in the MetroWest area, and later at Popponesset Real Estate.

She served on the Framingham School Committee for several years, and also holds the distinction of being the first woman elected to the Framingham Board of Selectmen.

She lived in Framingham for more than 50 years before moving permanently to her beloved Popponesset.

Lavin had an endearing and unwavering passion for politics, real estate and the Boston Red Sox.

She is survived by her five children: Charlotte Carr and her husband Kevin, of Upton, MA; Kellie Pegoraro and her husband, Gary, of Franklin; Mary Theresa Stockwell and her husband Robert of Milton, GA; Joseph Lavin and his wife Michelle of Barrington, RI; and Amy Flynn and her husband Timothy, of Walpole. She leaves nine grandchildren: Kieran, Meaghan and Colin Carr; Matthew and Emily Pegoraro; Kylie and Rhianna Lavin; and Emma and Timothy Flynn. She is also survived by two great- grandchildren, Caydence and Savannah Carr, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Elizabeth D’Andrea, her former husband, Joseph P. Lavin, and her grandson, Joseph P. Lavin IV.

A visitation will be held at the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home 74 Algonquin Ave. (Rte. 151) Mashpee on Monday July 7 from 4 to 7 p.m.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at the Christ the King Parish, 3 Job’s Fishing Road, Mashpee, on Tuesday July 8 at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow in Great Neck Woods Cemetery in Mashpee.
