Rev. Edward J. McLaughlin, Former Assistant Pastor at St., Bridget Has Died

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Bridgewater on Thursday morning.

He was the son of the late Cecila (Doherty) and Bernard McLaughlin.

Rev. McLaughlin was assigned as an Assistant Pastor in 1952 to St. Bridget Church, Framingham until 1960.

He was assigned to St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, Acton, and then St. Mary of the Angels Church, Roxbury, 1965 St. Mary Church, Waltham, 1976 Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Carver, 1977 St. Margaret Church Brockton, in June of 1982 he was appointed Pastor of St. Joseph the Worker Church in Hanson, in 1995 he was appointed  Parochial Vicar at St. Thomas Aquinas Church Bridgewater, and in 2002 attained Senior Priest Status at St. Thomas Aquinas Church.

Ordained a priest 61 years ago, Fr. Ed loved being a priest and his compassion for others was evident to everyone.  Fr. Ed had a special charisma for visiting the sick in area hospitals and was an ardent sports fan. His “Senior Moments” column in the parish bulletin was enjoyed by all ages. Prior to his recent illness he attended Mass at the Pastoral Center every day.

Brother of the late Bernard and Joseph McLaughlin, Rita Norton, and Mary McGrath. Cherished and greatly missed by John, Anne, Sean and Jenna. Fr. McLaughlin is survived by many nieces and nephews.   On his journey to heaven he also had the companionship of his beloved Jack Russell Terrier, Eddie who died shortly after sensing the loss of his Master. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Thomas Aquinas Church Bridgewater, Thursday, October 17 at  11 a.m.
