Veteran, Photographer Elliot Korklan Has Died

Elliot Korklan, of Framingham died on Nov. 12, 2013.

A graveside service was held Friday, followed by burial at Natick Jewish Cemetery.

Elliot Korklan was a remarkable husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, beloved by his family and friends. A true member of "the greatest" generation, his life reflected a desire to accomplish all things possible. He and his wife, Marilyn began their married life by traveling throughout the US and Mexico on an extended honeymoon. Throughout their life together, they traveled the world to explore the places he'd dreamed of as he amassed his collection of global stamps and coins. A man of many hobbies, he was a rock hound, a yacht owner, a tennis player and ham radio operator with a lifelong interest in new technologies and science. 

A veteran of WWII, Elliot served in England where he became interested in photography. In 1950, he established Korday Studio in Framingham, a portrait photography studio that over the next 40 years evolved into New England's largest color lab. During his career, he was president of the Professional Photographers of America and of the Professional Photographers of New England.
 
In the 1960s, he performed contract photography work for NASA through American Science and Engineering. In addition to being a visionary businessman, he had an excellent sense of composition and won several national awards for his outstanding artistic photographs.

He was an active member of Temple Beth Shalom in Framingham, chairing the building committee and participating in the brotherhood. The Temple formed his foundational community throughout his years in Framingham and provided him with his best friends.

Elliot and his wife retired to Tucson, Arizona where they spent 20 golden years enjoying the wonderful weather, daily tennis games, and hikes in Sabino canyon. 

For all his interests and accomplishments, Elliot Korklan lived a traditional, family-oriented life. Devoted to his wife and daughters, he took delight in his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He and Marilyn graciously hosted yearly large get-togethers for extended family and friends and he was never happier than when he was with family.

Son of Rabbi Harris and Sarah Bloch Korklan, he was born in Saginaw, Michigan and moved to Boston early in his life. His four sisters and two brothers remained a closely-knit extended family throughout their lives. 

He is survived by Marilyn, his wife of 67 years, Lisa Korklan and Paula Korklan-Hochberg, his daughters and their husbands Allen Leonard and Jason Hochberg, his grandchildren Julie and Mike Mandello, Michael Leonard, Lang and Maria Leonard, and great-grandchildren Gabriela, Alicia and Lang Diego.
