UPDATED: Private Bus Strikes School Bus Filled With Elementary Students

Ambulances were needed at a school bus crash Thursday afternoon; three students taken to the hospital.

A Framingham school bus was struck by a private bus on Edgell Road at 3:30 p.m. Thursday.

The Framingham Public Schools bus, carrying about 3 dozen students from Potter Road Elementary and Stapleton Elementary was hit by a private bus at the intersection of Edgell Road and Brook Street.

Emergency personnel said three of the students were taken to MetroWest Medical Center, complaining of neck pains, as a precaution.

Framingham Police are investigating the crash.

The students on the school bus was leaving the two elementary schools headed to the Boys and Girls Club on Pearl Street, to drop students at an after-school program.

Editor's Note: Durham School Service has the Framingham Public Schools bus contrcat, but it was not one of their buses transporting students from Potter Road and Stapleton elementary, said a company spokesperson.

I have to say that I see bus drivers from private companies, Durham and others driving with complete and total disregard for safety and traffic laws all the time in Framingham. I call when I can to report the drivers but nothing seems to matter. The companies get their contracts, they know they are locked in and they just don't seem to care whether or not the buses - emblazoned with their names in many cases - are driven by people who have the safety of our kids at the forefront. Just one of many reasons my kid has never commuted to school by bus!

I have also called about them rolling through stop signs. Susan, is there any pending requirement for seatbelts on school buses? I thought someone had mentioned one in the past.

My child was one of the children on the Boys and Girls Club bus and I'm just wondering why no parents were called to notify them of this accident. I was told by my children that there was an accident, when I picked them up at the Boys and Girls Club a little before 6:00 p.m. That seems a little outrageous to me.
