Framingham Firefighter Out of Coma and Recovering From Crash with Driver Charged with OUI

A Framingham firefighter, whom Southborough Police said was struck by a drunk driver on Oct. 16, is awake and out of a medically-induced coma.

Joseph Keefe, 54, who is recovering at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester also suffered several broken bones in the Southborough crash.

Friends and Framingham Firefighters have set up a Facebook page for Keefe. As of midnight today, the page had 1,700 fans.

On the page, it was posted Keefe is awake and the ventilator has been removed.

Over the weekend, Sunday masses at St Bridget's Catholic Church in Framingham were dedicated to Keefe's recovery. 

And CJ's Northside Grillin Nobscot, had a boot out all weekend collecting donations to help pay for Keefe's recovery.

According to Southborough Police, Keefe was riding his motorcycle on Route 9 when a van driven by Peter Fucci, 55, of Southborough, drove in front of him. Fucci left the scene of the crash.

Fucci was later arrested and charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of liquor causing serious injury, leaving the scene of an accident causing injury and driving to endanger.

At his arraignment in Westborough District Court, Fucci pleaded not guilty.
