Framingham Firefighters, Residents ‘Fight For Air’ in Boston

Locals joined first-responders from all over Massachusetts at the American Lung Association's charity event.

Two firefighters from Framingham climbed over 40 flights of stairs in full turnout gear recently in the name of charity, and they were joined by several other of the town's residents at the event.

Along with first responders from all over Massachusetts, Framingham's Joe Segal of Team JK and Framingham resident Mike Kilgallen of the Sudbury Fire Department climbed the stairs of the BNY Mellon Center on Washington Street in Boston wearing full gear as part of the American Lung Association’s annual “Fight For Air” event.

Called a “vertical road race” by organizers, the event raises money and awareness for lung cancer, asthma, air pollution and other breathing disorders.

Framingham residents Chris Moriarty, Tara Kilgallen, David McCann, Rick Dorman, Jillian Slyva, Jeanpatrick Lucien and Bernadette Henryluci all ran the event for various organizations in addition to Framingham's pair running in their firefighter gear.

Moriarty placed highest from Framingham non-firefighter entires, finishing 272nd overall with a time of 7:54. In the firefighter division, Segal was 167th at 12:11 while Kilgallen was 224th with a time of 13:21. There were 439 total firefighter entries and 1,231 overall participants.

Ryan Thomson, a Portland, Maine firefighter, won the firefighter division; while Andrew Hashway of Somerville, a part of the Gentle Giant Moving Company team, finished first out of all entrants.
