Framingham's Police Chief is one of two finalists to become the next chief of police at Assumption College in Worcester.

Framingham Police Chief Steven B. Carl is one of two finalists to become the next police chief at Assumption College in Worcester

Assumption College officials interviewed Carl and other candidates for the position of director of public safety, said Lorraine U. Martinelle Director of Media Relations at the college.

College officials hope to make a decision on an appointment within a week, said Martinelle. A salary range for the police chief position was not available

Founded in 1904, Assumption College is a Catholic College with an undergraduate student enrollment of approximately 2,000.

In February, Framingham Town Manager Bob Halpin offered Carl a three-year contract through 2016. Without the contract, Carl's current term would have ended on June 30, 2013.

Carl became only the fifth chief that the department has operated under since 1911, when he was named chief in June 2001. He began his career in 1983 as a patrolman, rising through the ranks.

Framingham Deputy Police Chief Craig Davis is one of two finalists for the Ashland Police Chief position. Framingham has three deputy police chiefs.
