Framingham To Hold Grand Opening Ceremony for Its Third Police Substation

The new Burkis Square Community Police Substation, located at 75 Hollis St., will also be the new headquarters for the Framingham Downtown Renaissance organization.

Framingham Police will hold a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for its third community police substation next week.

The grand opening for the Burkis Square Community Police Substation, located at 75 Hollis St., is Wednesday, July 30 at 1 p.m. The public is invited.

The new substation office space was donated by the South Middlesex Opportunity Council.

The space will also be the new HQ for the Framingham Downtown Renaissance organization.

"The opening of this community policing station is an important addition to the downtown area," said Framingham Police Chief Kenneth Ferguson. "We are pleased to be working side by side with the Framingham Downtown Renaissance and the South Middlesex Opportunity Council to enhance
communication with the residents and business owners in the downtown area and to develop a community-centered method of policing. This is another great example of a private/public partnership coming together
for one main goal: to improve the community.”

Framingham Downtown Renaissance Executive Director Holli R. Andrews said, "the location provides a nexus for a deeper collaboration with the Framingham Police Department, the Town of Framingham, Framingham State University, Mass Bay Community College, SMOC, local groups and
the downtown business community."

"We are now ADA compliant, and find ourselves at ground level with windows that look out onto the street revealing quite a lively scene," said Andrews.  "There is a ton of work to be done, but we are here, and we're rolling up our sleeves. We're truly grateful to SMOC, the Town of Framingham and the Framingham Police Department for creating this special space for us in the heart of downtown.”

This is the Framingham Police Department's third community police substation.

Framingham opened the Tripoli Police substation on March 31, and dedicated the station to former Framingham Selectman Dennis Giombetti.

Framingham Police established a substation in the Pelham Housing Development  in 1996. It is a collaborative effort between the Framingham Police Department, Framingham Housing Authority, and The Pelham Housing Management.
