Framingham Police To Open Substation in Tripoli Neighborhood

A dedication for the new community police substation will be held Monday, March 31 at 1 p.m.

The Framingham Police Department will open a new community police substation in the Tripoli community next week.

On Monday, March 31 at 1 p.m., a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at the new Tripoli Community Police Substation
located at 904 Waverly St.

The new substation will enhance communication and create a
community-centered method of policing, according to a press release.

"The opening of a community policing station on this site is an important addition to the neighborhood," said Framingham Selectmen Chair Dennis Giombetti. "Since the Tripoli Barbershop moved to their location a few blocks away I have been working with the Police Chief and Lee Mencoboni, the
owner of La Cantina and this property to make it a community policing substation."

Giombetti said he was "very proud that my last official act as a Selectman will be this ceremony. It merges my long standing efforts to invest in public safety and my love for the neighborhood where my father and I grew up."

Framingham Police Chief Ken Ferguson said the "implementation of this substation is an excellent example of community policing in action, your police collaborating with public and private partners for the betterment of the community."

A stabbing took place in the neighborhood Wednesday night.

In Fall 2012, more than 60 residents of the Tripoli neighborhood held a community meeting with Framingham Police to address concerns.

Editor's Note: I live in the neighborhood on Fay Road.

Framingham Police established a substation in the Pelham Housing Development area in 1996. It is a collaborative effort between the Framingham Police Department, The Framingham Housing Authority, and The Pelham Housing Management. Officers are assigned to the Sub Station during the day and evening shifts. Officers coordinate community meetings with police, management, and the tenants.
