Colleen Kelly, 21, who was expected to graduate from Framingham State University in 2013, was an English major, who just completed a 12-week internship at Fuller Middle.
She wanted to be a teacher and "was looking ahead to a bright and promising future," said Framingham Superintendent of Schools Stacy Scott.
. She made it halfway when she was struck in the eastbound lane, thrown into the westbound lane, where she was hit again. Both drivers stopped. Framingham Police are investigating.
A Mass was held for Kelly on the University campus Sunday night. A funeral is planned for Wednesday (more details below.)
Saturday, University President Timothy Flanagan issued the following statement: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Colleen’s family, friends and fellow students. This tragic loss is felt by the entire Framingham State community. I know we will all be relying on each other for support during this difficult time.”
Today, Dec. 17, students and staff at the Framingham middle school will be dealing with the loss.
"This is a devastating event for the Fuller School community, particularly at this moment in time. ... Please reach out to one another and provide whatever support you can offer. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Kelly family, our colleagues and the students at Fuller Middle School," wrote Scott in an email to staff Sunday.
Scott told Framingham Patch Sunday night "we are planning to deploy the crisis team at Fuller in response to the loss of the student teacher. Counselors and support will be there ... Principals and staff are prepped for possible conversations with children."
