Hingham Homeowner Discovers Burglar, Framingham Man Arrested

A Hingham man arrived home Thursday morning to find a burglar in his home.

When the Jarvis Avenue resident returned home at 9:30 a.m., the burglar fled his home and ran toward Downer Avenue, Hingham Police said.

Just five minutes after the resident reported the description of the suspect to police, the initial 9-1-1 call Officer Jeffrey Kilroy and Harbormaster Kenneth Corson located the suspect quickly walking away on Governor Long Road, police said.

Police arrested the man identified as Peter Michael Clear, 36, of Framingham.  He was found with prescription pills in his possession  and admitted he had no prescription, police said.

He  was charged with breaking and entering in daytime for felony, breaking and entering for felony, possession of Subxone pills, possession of acetaminophen and codeine, possession of diovan, receiving stolen property under $250 and over $250 and two counts of larceny of drugs.

Officers also found a case in his possession containing items such as syringes, pieces of cotton, tie off elastic bands and burner. He also had prescription medication belonging to another home on Jarvis Ave, but denied involvement in any breaks.

As of Thursday evening, police are only aware of two homes, both on Jarvis Avenue that were broken into by the Framingham man. Both homes were entered through unlocked doors, police said.

Before the arrest, witnesses said they saw him running across Downer Avenue before he was arrested and saw him discard a bag. Police later found the bag in a nearby backyard of a home on Downer Avenue, which contained jewelry and used latex gloves.

Hingham Police Sgt. Steven Dearth said the suspect was “sweating profusely, out of breath, had mud on sneakers, appeared disheveled and was talking on his cell phone,” when he was found.

Police said this investigation is still ongoing.

Clear will be held without bail. He is currently being held at the Hingham Police station and will be transferred to the Plymouth County House of Correction Thursday night and arraigned at Hingham District Court on Friday.
