New Hampshire Man Charged with Passing Counterfeit Bills in Framingham
Framingham Police and the U.S. Secret Service are investigating the arrest of a New Hampshire man at CVS at 9 a.m. Sunday.
A New Hampshire man was arrested at CVS on Sunday morning, charged with passing counterfeit bills.
Matthew Waters, 34, of Merrimack, N.H was arrested at the CVS on Route 9 at 9 a.m. on Sunday, July 13
After his arrest Framingham Police Detectives obtained a search warrant for his unit at Motel 6 in Framingham and seized additional counterfeit bills and related evidence, said Framingham Police Lt. Stephen Cronin.
The U.S. Secret Service was notified and is now involved in the police investigation.
Under federal law, the use or attempted use of counterfeit currency is illegal, if the person has the intent to defraud the recipient. A conviction for the offense carries up to 20 years in prison and a fine.
A conviction for producing counterfeit currency similarly carries a maximum sentence of 20 years imprisonment and a fine, as does a conviction for merely possessing counterfeit currency.
