Framingham Fire Department battled a fire on Route 30 Tuesday during the early morning commuter hour.

The fire was reported at 209 Cochituate Rd in two-story structure with multi apartments.

Fire was showing from the home when crews arrived just after 8 a.m.

Framingham Fire had the fire under control within a half hour.

American Red Cross volunteers are assisting a family of five adults displaced by a fire, said Communication Manager Ashley Studley.

"Volunteers are providing the family with emergency temporary shelter at a hotel, emergency funds for food and comfort kits (toiletries). Two family members are receiving additional funds for clothing," she said.

My grandmother and grandfather bought that house when they immigrated from Italy in the 1920's. My mother grew up there and still remembers watching 4th of July fireworks from those attic windows. It was a single family house in those days.

BTW- what was the end result- were they able to save the house?
